Notes on "Beuys interview"
The art object as a vehicle for communication. Comment: similar to a word then
Everness: wooden box labelled: "drink the content of bottle II and throw the cap as far away from you as possible": Beuys: "the object is only right if it's done (the action)" Comment: doing the action also yields utter destruction of the object so it is significant symbolically
(p. 19) everybody is an artist / we are not so much productive now because "in our political system, the concept of freedom does not exist in the right sense" Comment: points to DIY
Use of animals (like helk and hare) reminiscent of mythical figures. Critic of art becoming "the territory of a few intellectuals, far from the life of people". Comment: makes me think of this Dutch poetry book I read from the "Fifthiers" who srive to deconstruct poetry and have it address "real life"
Criticizes that we associate artists w/ painters and sculptors. Art is alienated from life. "culture flows throgh the whole of life right through to every detail, and its products are the concrete concept of CAPITAL."
